West Nile virus is the biggest concern in our area and the leading cause of mosquito-borne disease in Michigan. Most people who get infected don’t show symptoms, but about 1 in 5 develop fever and other symptoms, and 1 in 150 can develop serious illness.
Eastern Equine Encephalitis is less common but more serious—about 30% of people who get EEE die from it. We’ve also seen Jamestown Canyon virus detected in Michigan mosquito populations in recent years.

We recommend starting treatments in late April or early May, before mosquito activity peaks. Michigan mosquitoes become active when temperatures hit 50°F consistently, and by July and August, our humid conditions create ideal breeding environments.
Starting early allows us to disrupt breeding cycles before mosquito populations explode. It’s much easier to prevent mosquito problems than to control them after they’re established.
Our seasonal program runs through fall because mosquitoes stay active until the first hard frost. Even in September and October, you can still get bitten by mosquitoes carrying West Nile virus or other diseases.
We typically treat every 3-4 weeks during active mosquito season, which runs from late April through October in Michigan. The frequency depends on weather conditions, mosquito pressure, and how your property responds to treatment.
After heavy rains, we may recommend additional treatments since standing water creates new breeding opportunities. Hot, humid periods also increase mosquito activity and may require more frequent service.
Our technicians monitor your property and adjust the schedule based on what we’re seeing. Some properties need more frequent attention due to nearby water sources, heavy vegetation, or other factors that attract mosquitoes.
We use targeted application methods that minimize impact on beneficial insects. Our treatments focus on areas where mosquitoes rest and breed, not on flowering plants where bees and other pollinators are active.
We apply treatments during times when beneficial insects are less active, typically early morning or evening. Our technicians are trained to identify and avoid treating areas with high beneficial insect activity.
The products we use break down relatively quickly in the environment and don’t persist on flowering plants. We can also work with you to identify specific areas you want us to avoid, like vegetable gardens or bee-friendly flower beds.
During treatment, our technician will spray areas where mosquitoes rest and breed, including shrubs, tall grass, and areas with standing water. The process typically takes 30-45 minutes depending on your property size.
You’ll notice a significant reduction in mosquito activity within 24-48 hours after treatment. The effects typically last 3-4 weeks, though heavy rain can reduce effectiveness and may require retreatment.
We recommend staying indoors during application and for about 30 minutes afterward while the product dries. Pets should also be kept inside during this time. After that, you can use your yard normally—that’s the whole point of getting professional mosquito control.
